The Brunello di Montalcino ‘San Giovanni Battista’ from the Leonardo Da Vinci winery is a label of excellent complexity and richness, among the most prestigious labels produced by this cooperative based in Tuscany. In particular, the ‘San Giovanni Battista’ is part of the ‘Da Vinci I Capolavori’ collection, which includes labels named after some of Leonardo's most famous works, expressions of illustrious wine denominations, including Brunello di Montalcino, one of the jewels of Italian winemaking.
The ‘San Giovanni Battista’ Leonardo Da Vinci Brunello di Montalcino Da Vinci I Capolavori is a 100% Sangiovese from vineyards located in the Montalcino area, planted in soils with a rather heterogeneous composition, predominantly clayey and rich in fossil shells. The altitude is also very variable, with elevations ranging from 120 to 650 meters above sea level. Between September and October, manual harvesting is carried out, followed by the classic red winemaking with alcoholic fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, accompanied by 20-25 days of maceration on the skins. It follows aging of at least 30 months in 50 hectoliter Slavonian oak barrels that precedes bottling and further resting in glass before final marketing.
Leonardo Da Vinci Brunello di Montalcino ‘San Giovanni Battista’ Da Vinci I Capolavori has a clear purple-red color tending to garnet. The complex olfactory panorama is described by fruity notes of plum, black currant, blackberry, and cherry that blend with hints of coffee, vanilla, and cocoa. On the palate, it is rich and full, with pleasant freshness and a soft body, with velvety tannins that accompany the fruity progression of good balance.
