Nicole Moncuit shapes her Champagne Extra Brut Grand Cru by interpreting without mincing words one of the most renowned terroirs of the Côte des Blancs: the vintage is vinified in purity, without contributions from aged wines, and the use of only steel aims to preserve the entire expression of the marine-origin chalk that constitutes the subsoil.

The domaine Pierre Moncuit produces its Champagne Extra Brut Grand Cru by elaborating pure Chardonnay grapes entirely sourced from the village of Mesnil-sur-Oger, one of the most renowned names within the territory of the Côte des Blancs. On these minimal elevations, which reach nearly 200 meters in altitude, the vineyard extends over a total area of 15 hectares, divided into 20 different parcels facing east and southeast: the soils are characterized by clay and a massive presence of composite rocks, while the soils show the peculiar chalky formation that has played a significant role in celebrating the fame of this region. Over the years, the traditionally family-run company hasis strongly committed to gradually reducing interventions with products derived from synthetic chemistry, until achieving the goal of sustainable viticulture and the Haute Valeur Environnementale certification obtained in 2019. The harvest is done by hand, at the right moment of fruit ripeness, and the vinification proceeds solely in steel tanks, without the use of reserve wines. The malolactic fermentation takes place completely and the sparkling process in the bottle continues with at least 36 months of aging on the lees: the Champagne is released after at least 8 years of maturation in the cellar, with a dosage of up to 3 grams per liter.

The Champagne Extra Brut Grand Cru by Pierre Moncuit presents a bright straw-yellow color with golden reflections. The aromas are straightforward and intense, with spring notes of light flowers and hints of brioche and citrus peels. Very fine and elegant on the palate, it unfolds into a creamy generosity and with great balance on the powerful chalky minerality. A magnificent example of the terroir of Les Mesnil.
