Gewurztraminer 'Flora' Girlan 2023

South Tyrolean winery Girlan introduces Gewurztraminer 'Flora,' a generous and extroverted expression of this popular aromatic variety. The 'Flora' line includes fine wines subjected to strict quality controls sourced from the best production areas of Oltradige and Bassa Atesina, all to meet the viticultural potential of the terroir and the varieties are grown. The name of the range represents a dedication to South Tyrolean artist Paul Flora, who illustrated the labels.

Girlan Gewurztraminer 'Flora' is made from only Gewurztraminer grapes grown between 450 and 500 meters above sea level on gravelly clay soils rich in minerals. The vineyards are located in the Girlan subzone, in the hills of Oltradige, and in the Bassa Atesina. Following manual harvesting, the grapes are transferred to the winery and first undergo a short maceration and then whole cluster soft pressing. After natural sedimentation, the must undergoes temperature-controlled alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel tanks, the same containers in which the 8-month maturation on the lees takes place, without carrying out malolactic fermentation, so as to preserve the wine's natural freshness.

On visual inspection, the Gewurztraminer 'Flora' from the Girlan estate expresses a deep straw yellow hue. Intense aromatic scents of exotic fruits, ripe apricot, jasmine, white rose, dehydrated ginger and citrus zest emerge from the glass. In the mouth, it is full, warm and dense, with enveloping softness well balanced by lively freshness in a remarkably persistent finish. This Gewurztraminer makes an excellent pairing with rich, savoury dishes of exotic cuisine or with aged cheeses.
