The Piquentum Malvazija Istriana is a Croatian orange wine of impressive complexity and character made by the artisan winemaker Dimitri Brecevic. The territory of Istria represents the northern border of the Mediterranean, where the warm sea breezes blowing from the south meet the cold winds coming from the north. In this unique environmental context, Malvasia Istriana stands out as the most emblematic grape variety, to which about 70% of the entire Istrian vineyard area is dedicated. The winery where Piquentum is located was carved out of an old water cistern dating back to the 1930s, where the temperature is naturally constant all year round at around 10-11 °C. These values are ideal for aging wines but are low for the spontaneous progression of fermentations. However, to remedy this inconvenience, Dimitri has installed fans that channel warmer outside air during the fermentation phase.

The Malvasia Istriana of Piquentum is made from only grapes of the same name, grown on rocky soils rich in sandstones, clays, and marls. After manual harvesting, the bunches are transferred to the winery for spontaneous alcoholic fermentation, accompanied by 2-3 days of maceration on the skins. The subsequent maturation phase takes place 70% in used oak barrels and the remaining part in stainless steel tanks. After about 18 months, blending and subsequent bottling take place, which occurs without prior clarification and filtration.

Piquentum Malvazija Istriana is golden yellow with orange reflections. The nose perceives hints of sweet spices, acacia, citrus peel, aromatic herbs, and honey. Tasty, rich, and complex on the palate, with excellent freshness and impressive mineral vein.
