The Morellino di Scansano from the Podere 414 winery is a wine that truly belongs among the prestigious reds of Tuscany. Symbol of the rough Maremma Grossetana, a land with a very low impact from economic activities and an oasis closer to the idea of natural preservation, as considered by the European Union within the framework of significant rural districts at the continental level.

Resulting from subsistence agriculture, the landscape of the area can be seen as a photograph: static, preserved at its original level, quite rough and wild, difficult to tame. The Sangiovese vines, accompanied by Ciliegiolo, Alicante grown as a bush, Colorino, and other native varieties, are located on hillside ridges not too far from the sea. The artisanal dimension and the desire to respect the surrounding territory have led the winery to adopt organic farming in the vineyard and maximum care, to avoid altering the product, in the winery. Before starting the actual winemaking process, the winery subjects the Alicante to a slight drying in the vineyard and the Ciliegiolo undergoes carbonic maceration.carbonic. The alcoholic fermentation occurs spontaneously in steel tanks and small conical wooden vats, depending on the different grape varieties. The maceration on the skins lasts from 15 to 20 days with frequent pump-overs and manual delestages. The wine matures in 25 hectoliter oak barrels and used barriques for 12 months.

The Morellino di Scansano appears ruby red. The nose vividly reveals hints of ripe fruit and spices. In the glass, its Mediterranean character emerges, expressing notes of licorice and vanilla. On the palate, it has a broad attack, softened by the passage in barrique, to refine the drinkability. It is fresh, harmonious, and round, with fine tannins and a slightly savory finish. A fruit of the earth: generous and uncontainable.
