The Spumante Brut Murgo is the first Metodo Classico based on Nerello Mascalese produced on Etna. Thanks to the deep knowledge of the territory and the grape varieties, the winery was the first to realize that high-quality sparkling wines could be produced on the slopes of Mongibello. Today, the trend of bubbles has also swept through Etna, but Murgo's labels represent excellence, thanks to a long experience and artisanal savoir-faire. The lively freshness and the presence of few anthocyanins make Nerello Mascalese particularly suitable for sparkling wine production and the creation of notable elegant Blanc de Noirs, characterized by very delicate aromas, good structure, and a savory and mineral character typical of the terroir.
The Metodo Classico Brut of Murgo is born in the area of Santa Venerina, where the winery owns about 60 hectares of land, dedicated to olive groves and vineyards. As per the tradition of the territory, local indigenous grape varieties are cultivated with the utmost respect for the environment, following the principles of organic farming. The Nerello Mascalese vines are cultivated at an altitude of about 500 meters above sea level. The harvest is carried out slightly in advance of the complete ripening of the grapes to preserve maximum freshness. The bunches are pressed very gently, in order to extract only the first free-run juice. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 14 °C. After a resting period in steel for 7-8 months, the base wines are blended to create the final cuvée. The second fermentation occurs in the bottle according to the Metodo Classico, with a resting period on the lees of 2 or 3 years before proceeding to disgorgement.
Spumante Brut Murgo is a Metodo Classico of great territorial typicity, among the best expressions in absolute terms regarding national production with indigenous grape varieties. It presents a bright straw yellow color, with a luminous, very fine, and continuous perlage. The olfactory profile is characterized by floral aromas of orange blossom and broom, nuances of aromatic herbs from the Mediterranean scrub, citrus hints, aromas of apple, white peach, loquat, and spicy notes. The entry on the palate is harmonious and pleasantly fruity, with a long sip and good aromatic complexity, which unfolds towards a savory and very fresh finish.
