The Sicilian winery Terrazze dell’Etna introduces its Spumante Metodo Classico Brut Rosé, a sparkling wine with a volcanic and Mediterranean soul. In addition to producing extraordinary white and red wines, Etna has shown a certain inclination towards sparkling wine production over the past few decades, due to the high altitudes, the richness in mineral substances of the soils, the climate tempered by Mediterranean breezes, and the significant temperature variations between day and night. All these factors contribute to the endowment of organic acids and the aromatic finesse of the wines, fundamental attributes for the creation of great sparkling wines.
The Spumante Metodo Classico Rosé Brut from Terrazze dell’Etna is made from a blend of Pinot Nero (90%) and Nerello Mascalese (10%), black grape varieties cultivated within the municipality of Randazzo, on the north-western slope of the volcano. The vines, aged between 10 and 20 years, are located between 800 and 950 meters above sea level on dark soils rich in skeleton originating from the disintegration of ancient lava flows. After about 1 hour of skin maceration in the press is followed by soft pressing and alcoholic fermentation in temperature-controlled steel tanks. After a few months of resting on the fine lees, the mass is bottled and added with tirage syrup for refermentation according to the Metodo Classico, with the aging period on the yeasts in the bottle lasting for 36 months and taking place in specially designed temperature-controlled environments.
The Metodo Classico Terrazze dell’Etna Spumante Brut Rosé is pale pink in color with fine and persistent bubbles. Intense and elegant hints of wild strawberries, raspberry, pomegranate, and red flowers combine with notes of Mediterranean scrub. The taste is fresh, balanced, and fragrant, with a pleasant and characteristic savory finish.
