Syrà' Uggiano 2021

The “Syrà” from Uggiano is a Tuscan red produced with pure Syrah. The great French grape variety, which in the Rhône Valley expresses reds of absolute excellence, has shown that it can adapt very well even in Tuscany, giving birth to an intense and rich wine. Thus, in the lands of Chianti, an internationally flavored label is born, capable of seducing with its characteristic spicy aromas. The brief aging in wood allows for the preservation of the more typical fruity notes of the grape, enhanced by refined tertiary notes.

“Syrà” was born from the desire to produce a pure Syrah wine within the Uggiano estate. The vineyards are located at an altitude of about 250-300 meters above sea level, in a hilly area that extends from Montespertoli towards Montelupo Fiorentino and San Casciano Val di Pesa. The Syrah grape, which was once rumored to have been brought to the famous hill of Hermitage by some Knights returning from the Crusades in the Holy Land, is actually a spontaneous cross between two ancient varieties from Central Europe, the MondeuseBlanche, native to Savoie, and Dureza from Ardèche. Fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature of 26-28 °C, with a maceration on the skins lasting about three weeks. It first ages in French oak barriques for 6 months and then for a few months in steel before bottling.

The “Syrà” produced by the Tuscan winery Uggiano is a successful version of the noble French grape in the land of Tuscany. It is a wine with a strong personality, with an intense and mature profile, perfect to pair with roasts or game. In the glass, it presents itself with a very intense ruby red color. The bouquet offers aromas of currants, raspberries, small dark berry fruits, underbrush notes, and oriental spices. The sip is enveloping and intense, with a full and expressive fruit, well-integrated tannins, and a harmonious finish that returns to the notes of black pepper.
