Philippe Rossignol
In the famous Burgundy village of Gevrey-Chambertin lies Domaine Philippe Rossignol, a true winery of excellence in the Côte de Nuits, run strictly as a family business. In this pilgrimage destination for wine lovers, Philippe Rossignol started his winemaking project in the mid-1970s, at the time just twenty years old, backed by a solid family tradition traceable to his grandfather. In fact, the winemaker initially settled in Brochon with 2 hectares of vineyard, later marrying Dominique Roty, sister of the renowned producer Joseph Roty, who helped Philippe select over time the best vineyards he could acquire. Since 2005, Philippe Rossignol has been assisted in managing the estate by his son Sylvain, with the two following a traditional production philosophy to create great reds from Pinot Noir grapes.
Domaine Philippe Rossignol includes 7 hectares of owned vineyards and an additional 10 hectares rented, distributed between the areas of Gevrey-Chambertin and Fixin, with the presence of classified Premier Cru plots. Pinot Noir is the most important variety of the Domaine, partly represented by old vines over 60 years of age. The yields per hectare are limited, and the harvest is carried out strictly by hand. In the cellar, the grapes are usually destemmed and then vinified through alcoholic fermentation at controlled temperature in oak barrels or in stainless steel tanks in contact with the skins. Aging takes place in small French oak barrels of multiple uses and the wines are finally bottled without undergoing any filtration. Moreover, since Philippe is very allergic to sulfites, the amounts of sulfur used throughout the process are minimal.
