The Gavi Riserva ‘Vigna Madonnina’ from the Piedmont winery La Raia represents a clear interpretation of the denomination, highly territorial, the result of a production vision based on biodynamics. This bottle is born from the parcel vinification of the Madonnina vineyard, a plot located within the La Raia estate that, like the rest of the winery's cultivated area, is tended through the technique of green manuring. This practice involves the sowing of vetch, peas, and clover, species that, once mowed, transform into humus and organic fertilizer, thus restoring fertility to the soil.
The ‘Vigna Madonnina’ La Raia Gavi Riserva is made from only Cortese grapes from the Madonnina vineyard, characterized by a southeast exposure, a ventilated microclimate, and a clayey, calcareous, and marly soil matrix. The grapes, grown under certified biodynamic management, are hand-harvested slightly late and are then destemmed before soft pressing. After a brief cold static decantation, the must thusferments in small stainless steel tanks at controlled temperature. It is followed by 6 months of aging also in steel and an additional 6 months of refinement in the bottle before being released on the market.
The Raia Gavi Riserva ‘Vigna Madonnina’ has a bright straw-yellow color. Fine and delicate is the aromatic bouquet, defined by typical floral scents that blend with hints of ripe fruit, honey, and candied fruits. On the palate, it is rich, dry, and harmonious, with pleasant freshness and a savory mineral note that lead to a persistent finish. This Gavi represents the ideal pairing with seafood cuisine, especially with dishes based on shellfish, but also in accompaniment to creamy risottos or lightly aged cheeses.
